Outdoor Vacation Ideas - What To Do When Packing

by Gina Parks

Spending your holiday in the splendor of the outdoors is the perfect respite from the hassles and pressures of city life. This gives you a chance to commune with nature and enjoy its natural beauty. When preparing for your next camping trip, it is important to be prepared, because everything will be done on the fly at the campsite - pretty much like a shotgun offense in football. Packing the right clothing for your trip is essential to enjoying to vacation. Before setting off on your trip, check the climate of your camping area. Even if it's only a few hours away, a higher elevation can have severely colder weather. Plan around the latest weather report. You want to expect the unexpected, so this means preparing for rain even in potentially dry climate.

If you're expecting warm weather then choose clothing that is lightweight and allows your skin to breathe and sweat to evaporate. Avoid wearing shorts when camping in an area with lots of thorns and brambles on those taller plants - you also wouldn't want to get injured by brush or insect bites or poisoned by dangerous plants, a sure-fire way to ruin any camping experience.

When preparing your gear for a cold weather camping trip, it's very, very important to bring the right clothes, even if it may be a bit of a chore to prepare in this case. You want clothing that allows your skin to breathe while protecting it from the chill winds. You would still sweat in any case, so you should make sure the fabric can absorb your sweat and evaporate it. Wool tends to make you chafe while cotton is comfortable, albeit lacking in protection - go for a mix of both fabric types, or a blend. Fortunately, there are quite a few sporting goods shops that sell sweaters and other clothing for cold weather camping needs. You'll be thankful you brought that extra pair of thermal undies if you are going cold weather camping and hit by an unexpected blizzard or spate of freezing weather. And don't just bring any jacket with you - make sure it is resistant to rainfall and insulated properly. You want a jacket that doesn't make you feel as if you're carrying a heavy load on your shoulders - it should be light and convenient especially for those strenuous activities like hiking. You want a jacket that is breathable and comfortable while being easy to carry around and warm even in the coldest weather - Primaloft and Thinsulate are two kinds of fabric that offer all four of these factors. They are available at sporting good stores and cost more than ordinary jackets but they'll be worth the extra money.

One thing you should prioritize is avoiding cuts and scrapes that might lead to complications or serious injury, and this means wearing sturdy clothing regardless of the weather you are camping in. Dress in layers so you can easily adjust to climate changes. You wouldn't want to be burdened by clothing that is especially heavy, and this is especially true when you're carrying your bags around with unused articles of clothing - always go lightweight when it comes to your clothes. Keep this in mind because you want to preserve your energy for the rest of the trip.

Make sure you prioritize bringing the right camping equipment, because this can be a deal-maker or deal-breaker when it comes to predicting the success of your camp-out. Keep yourself safe from the wrath of Mother Nature and your outdoor vacation will be a blast for everybody involved, yourself included.
